    D. K. Aruna’s full name is DharmavarapuKottam Aruna. She is an Indian politician who is currently serving as the National Vice President of Bharatiya Janata Party from 26 September 2020. She has also served as a legislator and represented the Gadwal constituency in Telangana. She has served as the Minister for Information and Public Relations in the cabinet of YS Rajasekhar Reddy. And also as a Minister for Small Scale Industries, Sugar, Khadi, and Village Industries in the cabinet of Rosaiah in Andhra Pradesh.

    Early life and Education

    D. K. Aruna was born on 4 May 1960 in Narayanpet. She is currently 61 years old as of 2021. She studied science up to intermediate after that she got married. Her father’s name was Chitlem Narsi Reddy and her brothers were Chitlem Venkateswara Reddy and Chitlem Ram Mohan Reddy. They all were Congress workers and legislators.

    Her father and brother were assassinated by Maoists in 2005 on Independence Day while they were attending the celebration at Narayanpet.

    At the age of 16, She was married into a family of politicians and Congress members. Her father-in-law D.K. Satya Reddy and her husband D.K. Bharatha Simha Reddy and her brother-in-law D.K. Samara Simha Reddy all were involved in politics.

    Political career

    For the first few elections, she lost by narrow margins. After that in 2004, for the first time, she was MLA from Gadwal constituency of Mahabubnagar district.

    In 2004, she represented the Samajwadi Party and won the election, and eventually, in the 2009 election, she represented Congress.

    From May 2004 to September 2009, she was the Minister of Information and Public Relations for Gadwal constituency. Then from September 2009 to November 2010, she was the Minister of Small Scale Industries, Sugar, Khadi, and Village Industries for Gadwal constituency.

    Moreover, she was a member of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly from 2004 to 2014. Then from 2014, she became a Member of the Telangana Legislative Assembly and served till 2018.

    In 2018, she lost the 2018 Telangana Legislative Assembly Election from Gadwal to her nephew named Bandla Krishna Mohan Reddy of Telangana Rashtra Samithi. In March 2019, she joined the Bharatiya Janata Party and contested the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from Mahabubnagar constituency but she lost that election.

    On 26 September 2020, she was appointed as National vice president of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
